Dem Virginia AG candidate Jay Jones fantasized about a GOP pol getting ‘two bullets to the head’
This is the Democrat norm, sane people will never bow to this extremism, we will not tone down our supposed rhetoric when it's us who are getting killed by these demons. They want you dead and this is not a few radicals, this now appears to be the overwhelming mainstream Democrat attitude towards Conservatives.
In 2022, Jay Jones, the Democratic candidate for Virginia’s attorney general, sent unsettling text messages to a former colleague, Republican House Delegate Carrie Coyner, expressing violent sentiments about then-House Speaker Todd Gilbert (R).
In the texts, obtained by The New York Post from a source, Jones chillingly suggested a hypothetical scenario involving “three people, two bullets,” naming Gilbert alongside Adolf Hitler and Pol Pot. He wrote, “Gilbert gets two bullets to the head,” and added, “Spoiler: put Gilbert in the crew with the two worst people you know and he receives both bullets every time.”
The messages, first reported by National Review, were sent around 8 a.m. on August 8, 2022, and left Coyner deeply troubled. “Jay, please stop,” she replied, adding, “It really bothers me when you talk about hurting people or wishing death on them.” The exchange began after Jones, seemingly by mistake, texted Coyner to complain about Republicans, including Gilbert, offering “glowing tributes” to the recently deceased centrist Democrat Joe Johnson Jr. In a heated moment, Jones wrote, “If those guys die before me, I will go to their funerals to piss on their graves,” and added, “Send them out awash in something.”
During a follow-up phone call, Jones reportedly escalated the conversation, suggesting he wished Gilbert’s wife, Jennifer, could witness her children’s deaths to shift her husband’s political stance, according to National Review, citing a source.
Coyner, disturbed, reportedly hung up and texted, “You weren’t trying to understand. You were talking about [hoping] Jennifer Gilbert’s children would die.” Jones doubled down, replying, “Yes, I’ve told you this before. Only when people feel pain personally do they move on policy.” He added, “I mean do I think Todd and Jennifer are evil? And that they’re breeding little fascists? Yes.”
Coyner, in a statement to National Review, called Jones’ words “not just disturbing but disqualifying for anyone who wants to seek public office.” She added, “Jay Jones wished violence on the children of a colleague and joked about shooting Todd Gilbert. It’s disgusting and unbecoming of any public official.”
Jones, now running against incumbent Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares (R), initially declined to apologize for the texts. Instead, he accused Miyares of orchestrating “smears” through “Trump-controlled media” to undermine his campaign. “Like all people, I’ve sent text messages that I regret and I believe that violent rhetoric has no place in our politics,” Jones told the Virginia Scope. “Let’s be clear about what is happening in the Attorney General race right now: Jason Miyares is dropping smears… to assault my character and rescue his desperate campaign.” He framed the election as a battle over whether “Trump can control Virginia or Virginians control Virginia.”Later, Jones issued a statement acknowledging the texts as “a grave mistake” and said he had attempted to apologize directly to Gilbert, now U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Virginia, and his wife.
